The UK's ultimate guide to Nova Scotia property and buying real estate in Canada's Atlantic playground
Regional guides
Home to the world’s highest tides (in the Bay of Fundy), the world’s largest saltwater lake (Bras d’Or in Cape Breton) and North America’s oldest orchards (in the lush Annapolis Valley), Nova Scotia is a varied and stunning province, offering the visitor and resident a host of sporting, cultural and leisure activities, amid the natural beauty of its maritime setting.
Nova Scotia is Canada’s second smallest province, located on the Atlantic coast and almost completely surrounded by the ocean. It is 575 kilometres (360 miles) long, and is on average about 130 kilometres (80 miles) wide.
There is no place in Nova Scotia where you are more than 56 kilometres (35 miles) from the sea. The long shoreline – nearly 7,500 kilometres (4,700 miles) – features beautiful unspoilt bays, inlets and small islands.
With 25,000 square miles, it’s about half the size of England, but has less than 1/50th of the population: only 950,000 people call Nova Scotia home, versus more than 50 million in England.
Halifax, Nova Scotia’s provincial capital and largest city, is 2,800 miles from London.
